Dropping Hints

Let’s admit it – we all do it.

It’s fun and harmless to drop hints for birthday presents or where we want to be taken for dinner, but too often we drop hints that are actually major emotional bombs.

A lot of the time, we use hints to skirt around really important issues in the relationship that need to be discussed, but we would rather jab at each other until the other person surrenders and brings it up.

Dropping hints is a very non-confrontational way of letting the other person know what’s on our heart and mind. Then, when the other person gets frustrated at our mixed messages, we get frustrated that they are frustrated and aren’t picking up on our confusing clues.

Though we might not have the courage or energy to sit down and really explore the issues with our partner, it is imperative to communicate clearly and openly if we want to get anything resolved.

Do the real work required in a relationship, and I guarantee it will yield a harvest of good results for both parties.

If we don't, it could turn into a real mess:

This is hilarious!! It's sad but true, guys are completely oblivious. I used to get into the biggest fights with my ex when he couldn't pick up on my tiny hints, even when we would discuss them beforehand. For example, he was friends with this one guy who was always making degrading comments towards me and the idiot ex never noticed. We decided to come up with a signal, which I would do when I felt Tom was being rude. Our signal was twirling my hair. I would do it, he would smile at me. I would get fed up and nudge him under the table, he would look at me quizzically. Finally, would kick him and he would turn to me, in front of a whole table of people and say, "Ow, why'd you kick me? Oh, was that the sign?".

Why I dated him for 3 years I'll never know. Fantastic blog! Keep up the great work!

If only i was as smooth as the ken doll! Very informative and interesting blog post on how to start AND maintain a relationship. It's all very true, when the initial flame dies down, the best thing to do is to try to take time and let you SO feel special. Now, as a classy gentleman, I would do so by taking them do a shooting range or bear wrestling. To each their own!

Via Tony,

Dropping Hints,

Very honest of you. For some people they need to drop hints. It's a way to test the waters, to see what the other person can handle. After all, in case you haven't noticed most women carry pepper spray now. Dropping hints keeps people safe from crazy people. That's why the phone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell, he wanted to break up with his wife, so we dropped a hint, she freaked out, he said he was kidding, then he invented the phone, moved out of state, and called her up, he broke up with her, they hung up, and he lived happily ever after. That's usually how the story goes isn't?
...GREAT VIDEO, TOO!! Take Care.

I love this video. It's a simple yet comical way to showcase a very common relationship experience. It is true, it is always the little things that count the most. It's amazing how a little thing like a compliment can be difference between a have or not having a significant other.
